What is Hygge?
The word Hygge, pronounced ‘Hoo-guh’, is a Danish word encompassing the feeling of coziness, contentment and well-being. It is the acknowledgment of a special feeling or moment, whether that be alone or with friends or family. I have long since gravitated towards this concept throughout my life and design inspirations and continue to share it with others. I hope your stay here at Hygge House is one of contentment and happiness, one that you will take with you wherever you go!

Go ahead and hashtag #hyggehouseloft on Instagram and TikTok and make some worldwide connections. We’re all so hip!
Loft Amenities
WiFi - Hygge House Guest / HyggeHappy
Espresso Bar - The Nespresso bar is here to feed your addiction. There are also assorted teas. Drink up!
Bath Bar - Taking a soak in the tub? There’s a create-your-own Bath Bar with two types of bubble bath, bath salts and an LED candle to set the mood. A little bubble bath goes a long way so don’t over-pour or you may end up lost in bubbles. Side note, to turn on the shower/tub, pull the handle out then to the left for hot.
TV - Yes, the TV rotates automatically. Whaaaaa?! Also, Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ are included in your stay. Please use the Hygge House user account. And don't go creepin' on my other user accounts, yo!
Pull-Out Table - Need to get some work done? Craving some mountain view dining? Hygge House has you covered. To operate, pull out/up until both sides snap into place. To fold down, reach under from the front and press both levers up to release.
Fireplace + LED Candle - Feeling extra hygge / cozy? There are great 4K fireplace videos on the the YouTube app on the TV! Plus, use the LED candle to add even more ambiance.
Bidet - The toilet features a full bidet to help prevent waste and to feel extra clean! I know you’re afraid to try it, but it may change your life forever. Trust me. Just turn the silver knob on the right forward slowly to activate.
Smart Lights + Skylights - All the lights in the loft adapt brightness to suit the time of day to create a comfortable lighting environment. If you need them brighter or dimmer, just hold the button and they will increase/decrease. Also, the screens next to the switches are for the skylights. Tap the home icon in the corner to activate the screen.
Winter - I keep Hygge House pretty cool in the winter, so there is a small space heater you can use at your discretion on those extra cold nights. Keep the curtains open on sunny days which will help warm up the loft. There are also extra blankets in the bedroom closet.
Summer + AC - Here in Colorado it can heat up during the day, but always cools down dramatically at night. To cool down the loft quickly, open a window in the bedroom and the bathroom on the other side of the loft for cross ventilation. You can also use the window AC Fan Only to speed up the process. If all else fails you may use the air conditioning, but please be considerate and turn off when you leave.
Wireless Phone + USB Chargers - There’s a wireless phone charger on the nightstand and a few USB ports below the nightstand. I won’t charge you for using it (Dad joke).
Noise Machine - Personally, I love to fall asleep to a noise machine. White noise, rain, ocean, river… All do wonders to help distractions fade away. Take advantage of it during your stay! Plus, if your traveling companion won't stop talking, it’s a great way to drown them out too.
Washing Machine - It’s small, but mighty! Wash + Dry takes about 2.5 hours (It’s all-in-one) so plan accordingly. FYI, it can get a little loud so I advise to run it when you’re gone. Laundry detergent is in the basket.
Toothbrush (Upon Request)
Toothpaste (Upon Request)
FYI
Staircase - Keep in mind, the staircase to the upstairs is a bit steep and ceiling can be low so watch your head. If you notice a little sensor with a black dot, it’s not a camera. It’s for the smart house system. :)
Two Small Attic Doors - These are my personal storage areas so no need to open them. You unfortunately can’t be John Malkovich. Trust me, I tried.
Bathroom Closet - This is off limits too. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, he’s just a water heater.
Rocky Mountain High - I know I live in Colorado and it’s 100% legal to get recreational marijuana. Please no smoking on property, but edibles and or other consumables are completely ok. There are two recreational spots (Maggie’s Farm and Emerald Fields) right down the road. Just don’t get too crazy, y’all! And if you have any left over, you can leave them in the fridge. Don’t worry, they won’t go to waste. Wink wink.
Check out
Communication - A quick message through Airbnb to let me know you’ve checked out is a big help! I also enjoy poems and limericks.
Trash - Please dispose of your garbage in the large black trash bin near the alley entrance. It has animal prevention straps, but I’m sure you can figure it out. :)
Sheets - If you’re feeling extra generous, stripping the white sheets is a big help too! But not required.

No doubt, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Colorado and I’ve been to a lot! You must try their Sweet Potato Nachos, Tomatillo Alfredo Sauce and Molcajete Bowl. Simply sublime!

An excellent healthier local restaurant right down the road with delicious offerings and cozy atmosphere. Their Mac and Cheese is divine and their desserts are homemade goodness.

Feeling hipster? This is a great modern Asian-Fusion restaurant + bar with a lively atmosphere. Great eats and even better unique drinks. I love their Steak Calamari, Panko Chicken and Asian Buns.

Award winning wood-fired artisan pizza and fantastic antipasti. You will be impressed, trust me.
Nara Sushi
Great sushi spot right down the road with unique speciality rolls and affordable prices. All locally sourced from the Colorado Ocean (That is a joke).
Jake and Telly’s Greek Tavern
Fun spot for authentic Greek food and a great upstairs patio.
Wild Ginger
Very tasty spot for fresh Thai food. Their soups are wonderful.
La Baguette
Excellent bakery and cafe. Their pastries and French Onion Soup are to die for!
Rudy’s Barbecue
Don’t let the gas station fool you, this is serious BBQ and I’m from Texas. Right when you pull up, you’ll start smelling just what’s in store. Excellent breakfast tacos/burritos with brisket and seriously good BBQ.
Front Range Barbecue
Two local barbecue spots within 5 minutes? Yes please. Excellent classic barbecue right in the heart of Old Colorado City with live music on the weekends.
The Pantry - Breakfast
One of my favorite breakfast spots! It’s super hole in the wall with grandma’s doilies everywhere, BUT it has great home cooked food and a perfect mountain setting. I recommend the signature cinnamon toast breakfast. If you place a second order to-go, I accept donations 365 days a year.
Bars + Breweries
Trails End Taproom
A huge selection of beers on taps and a big patio. You can even walk home. Or stumble. Go tap crazy.
Cerberus Brewing Company
This is a local favorite for west siders with a killer outdoor space. Many great original beers on tap including some non-alcoholic options and excellent hearty food!
Colorado Mountain Brewery
House brews + tasty food + outdoor fire pit = a great evening!
Places to visit
Garden of the Gods (1 Mile)
World famous Garden of the Gods has majestic views all year long. Sometimes I can’t believe I live right next to this beautiful place!
Old Colorado City (1 Mile)
Really fun small downtown feel with lots of shopping and restaurants. Local outdoor Farmer’s Market on the weekends!
Manitou Springs (1 Mile)
Infamously quirky and fun mountain town, this spot offers all the touristy fun shops and restaurants for a lively experience.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
(7 Miles)
In my previous corporate life, I managed relationships with zoo clients all around the nation. I have been to so many, including the San Diego Zoo, and I can say Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of my absolute favorites! There’s something magical and unique as you walk up the side of the mountain, seeing animals in lush natural spaces, feeding the giraffes and riding the gondola with beautiful views. It’s definitely worth a visit.
The Broadmoor
(5 Miles)
Did you know we have a world renowned 5-Star Hotel in Colorado Springs? The Broadmoor is a great place to spend a romantic evening dining in one of their 7 restaurants, cozying up next to the many fireplaces or taking a walk around the immaculately manicured landscaping. They even have a few more casual bars to have dinner and take in the mountain views. All is open to the public, but I recommend making a reservation if you want to dine.
Woodland Park (13 Miles)
One of my personal favorite mountain spots and only 15 minutes away! There are great places to eat including The Donut Mill for breakfast treats and all the forest mountain views you could want.
Divide (16 Miles)
If you continue past Woodland Park, Divide offers majestic mountain views and rolling landscapes. Great for an afternoon drive! For bonus sightseeing, continue on to 11 Mile Canyon. White water rapids and truly jaw dropping views right from your car! Amazing! $7 cash to take the drive, but absolutely worth it.
Paint Mines
(40 Miles)
A truly unique natural wonder. Beautiful colorful crevices and rock formations to explore and hide in. You will feel like you’re on the set of a Sci-Fi movie. I kept waiting for little aliens to pop out. Don’t forget to bring a wind breaker. It’s very windy and can get chilly.
Royal Gorge (60 Miles)
We have a mini Grand Canyon only about an hour away! The Royal Gorge Bridge + Park has jaw dropping views like you won’t believe. They even have a gondola ride, cliff-edge swing and the highest Zipline in North America (it literally goes across the gorge, I’ve done it several times). It’s not for the faint of heart, but what a heart pounding experience!
Downtown - Places to Visit + Tasty eats
US Olympic & Paralympic Museum
Ok I’m going to shoot it straight to you, this suggestion is not cheap at $25/person, but the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum is a world class museum right here in Colorado Springs! I will admit I was hesitant to visit it myself as I am not huge into the olympics, but I walked away thoroughly impressed with a decent amount of tears in my eyes. It’s incredibly high tech, heartfelt and a must see. You won’t regret it.
Tejon Street
This is where all the action is happening downtown. Restaurants, breweries, shops and Acacia Park. Lots of fun things to do for a great night on the town!
CO.A.T.I
One of the coolest spots downtown, this industrial warehouse converted into a multi-use space has it all. Micro restaurants, bars, special events and unlimited people watching (in a fun, non creepy way). I would highly recommend checking out CO.A.T.I!
Homa at Kinship Landing
This is my new favorite spot! I’ve been there too many pounds to count. My scale begs to differ. You can’t beat the combination of delicious food, hip atmosphere and affordability! Homa is located in Kindship Landing Hotel right in the heart of South Tejon so it’s fun to walk around too. I haven’t had anything I didn't like. Go. And bring me leftovers.
Bingo Burger
Terrible name, but by far my favorite burger joint. I’m quite saucy (no comments, please) and they have 10+ house-made sauces to dip those crispy fries and tots in. It’s my monthly indulgence. “Napoleon, give me some of your tots!”
White Pie Pizzeria
White Pie was one of my favorite restaurants in Denver and now we have our own in COS! It’s all fresh homemade wood-fired pizza with a fun atmosphere and great patio. The Crudité and hot brownie are perfectly complements to all their delicious pizzas. Highly recommended.
Josh and John’s Ice Cream
Fulfill your sweet tooth with this excellent local creamery. My favorite combo? Salted Peanut Butter Cup + Moose on the Loose in a fresh waffle cone. I think my mouth just watered.
The Rabbit Hole
Need a place to hide? This subterranean late night bar + restaurant is a favorite of many locals. Unique cocktails with a hip atmosphere and chill vibe. Hop on down to The Rabbit Hole. See how deep it goes…
Hiking Trails
Garden of the Gods Trails
The closest hiking and mostly easy to moderate trails with great views. Don’t miss the Siamese Twins Trail and Kissing Camels!
Red Rock Canyon Open Space Trails
Canyon trails and mountain views, sign me up. Very close and a plethora of trails and terrains to choose from.
Cheyenne Mountain Trails
7 Bridges is a popular trail with lots of mountain streams and forests. Parking lots fill up quickly so this is a good one to hit up in the morning. Once you park, the trailhead can be easy to miss, but if you ask around, someone will know. Everyone’s going to the same place.
Ute Valley Trails
Sweeping hills and valleys with relatively easy trails. Lots of open space to run around like you’re in The Sound of Music.
